In 2011, New York City-based insurance, annuities and employee benefits provider MetLife acquired the rights to the New Jersey-based stadium, which is one of only two venues used by two NFL teams. However, the stadium has only hosted a single playoff game under the MetLife banner, a 2011 wild card victory for the Giants over the Atlanta Falcons. The stadium was the site of Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, and will also host soccer matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
