SageView goes green with iPads

In a bid to be more efficient and environmentally friendly (and let’s be honest, hipper), SageView Advisory Group last week announced it had bought a dozen of the new iPads from Apple to replace paper for its quarterly reports.

The Irvine, Calif., registered investment adviser said that it typically goes through more than 12,500 sheets of paper per quarter to produce its investment reports, “not to mention hundreds of metal binding rings and plastic covers.”

To cut back on that waste and cost, Sage-View bought 12 16GB iPads and loaded them with PDF versions of their quarterly reports for their client reviews. Clients can then follow along with the adviser by turning digital pages of the files. The firm also said it will “distribute” some of the new gadgets to clients so they can check them out (good luck getting those iPads back!).

“We will be adhering to a more sustainable practice of utilizing technology instead of trees,” SageView chief executive Randall Long said in a statement. “These iPads will decrease our carbon footprint, as well as allow us to stay at the forefront of new technology.”

SageView, which has 12 offices nationwide serving retirement plan sponsors, is testing the use of the iPads for its West and Northeast regional quarterly reports. The firm expects to add them for the other regions soon.
